After reading the play, my design was guided by an overarching question: How does the desire to control one's fate affect their relationships? I decided that Prospero's servants would be played by creature like puppets in this pseudo elizabethan world. Prospero's magic could only control the elements of fire, rock, and air, not nature or plants. The court sharply contrasted the handmade washed clothes of the island.
