Pride and Prejudice

I worked to capture the humor and austenisms of Kate Hamill’s adaptation. Our production emphasized the theme of game and strategy as shown in the checkered floor and monochromatic characters. The stage picture is comprised of the british countryside with a horizon of winding hills to represent a game board as well as the presence of society watching represented by the little homes. Following Lizzy’s journey we visit many settings which are shown through painted drops that are meant to contract and expand the space. The Bennet family is led by the contrasting color palette of the parents. Each of the girl’s costume emphasizes their attitude toward marriage.
